Privacy
The short version: the developer, hobbica98, does not collect, store, sell or share any personal data. The game has no ads, no analytics, no telemetry and no account of its own. This website sets no cookies and runs no trackers. The only online services the game uses are Valve's Steam services, and online co-op when you choose to play it.
The game
Saves stay on your computer
Your progress (the Worldtree, settings and the run in progress) is saved in the game's own folder on your computer. The game also writes a local log file there to help with bug reports. Neither is sent anywhere by the game.
Steam Cloud
If Steam Cloud is turned on for the game in your Steam client, Steam copies the save files (meta.save, run.save and their backups) to Valve's servers so you can continue on another computer. This is done by Steam, under Valve's privacy policy. You can turn Steam Cloud off per game in Steam: Properties, General, Steam Cloud.
Steam Achievements
When you earn an achievement, the game tells Steam, and Steam records it on your Steam profile. That data is held by Valve. The game reads your Steam ID and Steam display name from the Steam client on your computer to talk to Steam and to label you in co-op; it does not send them to the developer.
Online co-op
Co-op is optional. When you host or join a co-op session, the game sends game data (your commands, the shared game state) and your display name to the other players in that session, and nothing to anyone else.
- Through Steam (host on Steam, join a Steam lobby or invite): the connection runs through Steam lobbies and Steam networking, which may relay it through Valve's servers. Valve's privacy policy applies.
- Direct IP or LAN: your computer connects straight to the other players. As with any direct connection, the players you connect to can see your IP address. Only use it with people you trust.
There is no server run by the developer. Nothing from a co-op session is stored outside the players' own computers.
Steam itself
The game is sold and launched through Steam. What Valve collects through the Steam client and store (purchases, play time, hardware survey and so on) is covered by Valve's privacy policy, not this one. The game also runs without Steam; then none of the Steam features above are used.
This website
ashencrown.org is a set of static pages. It sets no cookies, uses no analytics, loads no third-party scripts or fonts, and embeds nothing from other sites. The links to Steam take you to Valve's website, which has its own policy.
The site is served by Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes the technical data your browser sends to load a page (such as your IP address and browser type) to deliver it and protect it from abuse, under Cloudflare's privacy policy. The developer does not use this data for analytics or tracking.
If you email us, we receive your email address and what you wrote, and use them only to reply.
Children
The game and this website do not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children.
Changes and contact
If the game ever starts collecting data, for example crash reports, this page will say so first and the feature will ask before it sends anything. Questions about privacy: support@ashencrown.org.
